Father and Son Arrested for Forging Documents to Facilitate Illegal Entry into EU and US After 7-Month Tirana Prosecution Investigations
Y.B., 65, and his son, P.B., 45, were arrested as part of an investigation conducted by the Prosecution Office of Tirana, on charges of document forgery for facilitating illegal border crossings. Another citizen Sh.L., was also criminally prosecuted for acting as their accomplice.
One of the arrested persons was already under house arrest, a security measure imposed by the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK), as a member of a criminal group involved in the same activity.
Tirana Prosecution, in cooperation with the Section for the Investigation of Illegal Trafficking, discovered a site adapted as a laboratory for the falsification of various documents, following a seven-month investigation that employed special investigative techniques.
Investigations revealed that the production of a falsified passport with foreign citizenship costs between 15,000 and 20,000 euros. These passports are suspected to have been used for illegal passage to European Union countries or the United States.
Tirana Prosecution is continuing efforts to identify other people implicated in this criminal activity. In the meantime, the suspected counterfeit documents, along with other illicit items used in committing this offense, have been seized.
