Fire at the former Metallurgical Plant; Elbasan Prosecution Office initiates the investigations for the criminal offense "Air, Water, and Soil Pollution."
The head of the Prosecution Office at Elbasan Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction has initiated ex-officio investigations by recording the case number 1309, dated 7. 11. 2023 for the criminal offence of "Air, Water, and Soil Pollution," as provided for in Article 201 of the Criminal Code. This decision follows the awareness of an incident that took place on November 6, 2023, when a significant fire erupted within the confines of the former Metallurgical Plant in Elbasan, currently being managed by "Kurum" company. This fire of extensive proportions has caused large environmental pollution in the vicinity and more broadly in the municipality of Elbasan.
So as to conduct investigations regarding this criminal case, a team of investigators consisting of two prosecutors and three judicial police officers of the Prosecution Office at Elbasan Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction has been assigned. They have cooperated with the State Police services to conduct preliminary investigative actions within the aforementioned criminal proceeding, with the aim of revealing the causes of the incident.
