Strengthen of Anti-Corruption Unit capacities at the Prosecution Office for Serious Crimes

General prosecutor, Mr. Adriatik Llalla, has decided to strengthen the human capacity at the Anti-Corruption Unit at the Prosecution Office for Serious Crime, as a way to cope with the influx of criminal proceedings in this structure.

Currently, this Unit, which from today will consist of 5 prosecutors, numbering about 400 cases, on which are carried out procedural actions regarding property investigations on people and structured criminal groups, as well as cases of alleged corruption at high levels of management.

Also, pursuant to this Unit, now will be attached full time an expert of the OPDAT mission of the United States, which will provide a direct expertise on international crimes cases, as well as property investigation.

In a meeting held on Friday afternoon (dated 09.11.2015) at the Prosecution Office for Serious Crime, Mr. Llalla introduced new prosecutors, who have experience in anti-corruption structures in Judicial Districts Prosecution Offices.

Mr. Llalla said, during the meeting, that “Task Force Unit of the Prosecution Office for Serious Crime, besides the high number of proceedings, now has the support of a higher number of prosecutors, specialized expertise of OPDAT and of local specialists. For this reason, I ask prosecutors of Anti-Corruption Unit at the Prosecution Office for Serious Crime to finalize the current proceedings of corruption and property investigation, as well as to continue immediately with the cases that have been launched or have been referred to recently.”

In addition, Mr. Llalla noted that “the prosecutors that will be joined to this Unit, probably has the right to see their involvement there as an appraisal. And in fact, it is an appraisal. But more is a big responsibility, first to the public. To testify, more and more, the force of law against various officials at high levels of management, suspected of being involved in corruptive acts, as well as criminal groups, empowered financially.”
