The Prosecutor's Office in Tirana requests a 'prison sentence' for the Nigerian citizen S.N., who, through computer fraud, embezzled 25,000 euros from an Albanian businessman

At the end of a two-year investigation, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana, requested the security measure of 'Arrest with prison' for the Nigerian citizen S.N., residing in Dublin for the Criminal Offence "Computer Fraud".

On 20th October 2020, at the Tirana Local Police Directorate, the computer crime section, citizen E.B., a resident of Tirana, who has been running his business in importing detergents mainly from Italy for 10 years, denounced the fraud committed through e-mails.

During his activity over the years he communicated with the Italian side via e-mail based in Bologna, Italy whereto he made transfers for the goods he received. On 07th September 2020, he received an e-mail asking him to send the amount of 25,000 euros to the company's account, but now not in Italy but in Germany. 
The complainant did not realize that the transfer of euros should be made to Germany, not Italy when performing the payment but only when the Italian party requested the payment did he realize the fraud.

In continuation of the preliminary investigations letters rogatory were sent for judicial assistance to the judicial authorities in the Republic of Germany and the Republic of Turkey to identify the IP with relevant data.

Upon the arrival of the letters rogatory, it was identified that the author of the fraud as well as the beneficiary of 25,000 euros was the Nigerian citizen S.N., born in Warri, Nigeria and resident in Dublin, Ireland.

The investigations proved that this citizen has committed the criminal activity of "Computer Fraud" provided for by Articles 143/b/3 of the Criminal Code by embezzling the amount of 25,000 euros from the victim, citizen E.B.

For these reasons, based on Articles 287/1 and 315 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the security measure 'Arrest in prison' was requested in the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana, which was approved by the Court.
