General Prosecutor: EURALIUS, contribution to the Albanian justice.

The hailing speech in the closing ceremony of the project “Consolidation of the Albanian justice system”

Honourable colleagues,

In December 2012, my first official participation as General Prosecutor has been carried out in an activity of EURALIUS.
The presentation in this activity was actually a positive thing, given that the commitment of the experts of this mission for the prosecution office was fruitful.
Now that EURALIUS concludes its project in Albania we notice with pleasure that many of its objectives in the improvement of the justice system in our country have been carried out.

Of course, it is worth mentioning the assistance offered for the improvement of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. These changes, which have been finalized in the Parliament of Albania, have strengthened the role of the Prosecution body in the struggle against crime. Now the improved legal norms are expected to prove the real strength of the justice institutions. Furthermore, the latest amendments in the criminal legislation served to clear up the legal norms, which represent a considerable assistance to the activity of the prosecutors and judges.

Pursuant to strengthened provisions, the Prosecution body has drafted its priorities. The troupe of prosecutors has been instructed to follow a harsh criminal policy, aiming at maximal sentences on crimes affecting public opinion. This includes criminal acts against the minors, blood feud, crime within the family or against public officials, mainly in the public security field.
Moreover, what is further aimed regards the qualitative boost of the pro-active investigation, in cooperation with the State Police and other institutions. In this direction the assistance of EURALIUS committed to carry out joint inter-institutional meetings, has been productive.

Albanian Prosecution Office notices with pleasure that the cooperation between foreign and Albanian agencies shows positive achievements.
On a national scale, it has been achieved for some serious crimes to be uncovered within a short period of time and suspected authors to face justice. Meanwhile, work is going on intensively in the frame of the fight against corruption. Some investigations are ongoing and expected to be successfully finalized.

In addition, on a international scale, there have been successfully carried out some wide operations against many people being involved in criminal organizations.
This went on along with the strengthening of Albanian institutions, and this is, of course, a consequence of the technical assistance offered by EURALIUS project, which we thank today for the contribution in assisting Albanian institutions.
