General Prosecutor’s Office sent for trial the order against the former Minister of Education and deputy, Myqerem Tafaj

General Prosecutor’s Office has completed the investigation and sent for trial to the Supreme Court the order against the former Minister of Education and Science, currently Member of Parliament, charged with the criminal offense of “abuse of office”, provided by Article 248 of the Criminal Code.

At the end of investigation, according to the criminal proceedings no.4 of 2015, the General Prosecutor’s Office has concluded that the defendant has decided to open the educational programs of a private collage, currently closed, in contradiction to the decision of the Accreditation Council. General Prosecution considers this action to be directly intentional, even if it had a legal obligation to be respected and the assessment provided by the competent institution was clear (NEGATIVE evaluation), has decided to open it unlawfully.

The action carried out by the defendants Myqerem Tafaj brought consequently the opening of the educational programs, which are not in accordance with the legal requirements set in law and regulations, on the Collage in the Republic of Albania. 

General Prosecutor’s Office considers the actions carried out by the defendants Myqerem Tafaj, as former Minister of Education and Science, as creation of the private subject “Shkolla e Larte Private Vitrina”, which, despite the fact that it did not meet the standard provided by law, it expands its activity in the field of education and offer not qualified study programs, with financial consequences of the individuals and state, as a guarantor of high standards of teaching, as well as creation of undeserved favors to the educational institution in question.
